The Debian project is pleased to announce the seventh update of its stable distribution Debian 8 (codename jessie). This update mainly adds corrections for security problems to the stable release, along with a few adjustments for serious problems. Security advisories were already published separately and are referenced where available.



Several donations boost reliability of Debian's core infrastructure

Over the last several months, Hewlett Packard Enterprise (HPE), one of Debian's primary hardware partners, has made several large in-kind donations in support of Debian core services. The donated equipment will be deployed in the data centers of multiple hosting partners in Canada, the United States, and Australia.

The Debian Project recently learned that it has lost a member of its community. Kristoffer H. Rose died on September 17th after a long battle with myelo fibrosis.

Debian regularly produces many variations of installation CDs, DVDs, and live or cloud images for its users. We are due to upgrade soon to a new central build machine for image production to make the most of the latest CPU and storage technologies.



Security support for Wheezy handed over to the LTS team

As of 25 April, one year after the release of Debian 8, alias "Jessie", and nearly three years after the release of Debian 7, alias "Wheezy", regular security support for Wheezy comes to an end. The Debian Long Term Support (LTS) Team will take over security support.
